So there is this project I've been thinking about doing, and I'd like to have some people do this experience with me. Some may say it's a bit dangerous. That's why I want to do this in a group. I'm calling it homeless for the weekend. I want to help raise peoples awareness of the homeless epidemic in this country. Especially the homeless veterans who served this country. We all see it. People living on the streets, begging. There isn't enough services for these people in need. Women are especially at risk in this male dominated situation. I have been homeless before. But not to the extent of living on the streets, and begg2 for food, beverage and money. The elements really take a toll on these folks. Not all who are homeless are on drugs or are mentally unstable. But yes. There is a lot of that too. I live in Gulfport Mississippi. My work takes me to New Orleans every night. I see it every night. Often I'll carry extra bottled water with me and hand it out to the guys begging at the intersections I stop at. They are bery appreciative. A cold fresh bottle of water when it's 90 degrees is a welcomed hand out. If any of you would like to join me in this experiment and live near New Orleans. Let me know. Or if you have any ideas you think will be helpful. Let me know. Thank you for your time.

That's very nice of you. I have been homeless & I appreciate that you realize women are more at risk for homelessness than men are. They have to put a lot more effort into hiding their situation to avoid being victims of violence, so people get the impression that more men are homeless. Did you know the main cause of female homelessness is domestic violence?

I don't live anywhere near you so I can't participate in your project, unfortunately. Do you talk with people sometimes when you give them the water? It can be a very interesting experience.

Yes I do. Most seem to be pretty decent. Most are Christian or claim to be. This experiment is for 2 reasons. 1 to raise awareness of the homeless and the challenges they face. 2 to show just because some people may not believe in a God or a religion doesn't mean we don't care about our fellow humans.

@Spag84 Yes, we so need to show the world that religions don't have a monopoly on charitable behavior. I sew things for girls in Africa. It costs about $10 a pound to mail them. One of the organization directors in Malawi said that a church group could carry my donations over there for free. It really was a tough decision. I could buy so many more sewing supplies with the 100s of dollars it would save me, & so many more girls could get things they really needed. But a bunch of christians would get credit for all my hard work! Still not sure if it was selfish of me to refuse the offer. Another factor was that I like to be in personal contact with the people who give the items to the girls. What do you think?
