Is religion changing for the better and if so , is it changing fast enough? neighbors of mine in there 70s have stopped goin to church . Why because the church has decided to stop speaking in tongues and invoking the holy spirit? what does that mean i have no clue, but it sounds fucked up. the reasoning for doin this is as states" new patrons are freaked out by it and not returning". this made my neighbors so mad that watch church on tv now. i could use some help on this1 if anyone would like chime in. i try not be to nosy or ask to many religious questions cause everyone around here knows were i stand on the subject.

The evangelicals are getting worse/desperate as church attendence drops...

The mainstream is getting better/more inclusive.

But the "nones" (i.e. agnosticism) is definitely gaining strength according to the surveys. Atheism is gaining more slowly.

What I find interesting, is the growing agnostic clergy... where clergy are admitting they don't believe, that it's a job like any other.

As long as it's fading away, it's improving.

I’ve been to a few services over the years, where people ran around, screamed, rocked, cried, babbled: it’s uncomfortable for me, and when I was a child, frightening. But I get it: they are basically acting out, ‘proving’ to themselves and each other that god MUST be real. Actually, I never went in, but there was a snake-handling church down from my grandmothers house. Crazy folks, in my humble opinion! I can’t think of anything I need to prove that involves a live rattlesnake.
I grew up in NC and was taken to church(Southern Baptist) til I got old enough to refuse. I never have believed in god/religion. I see it as a delusion, and I don’t need it.

I don’t know if a church where they invoke the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues is necessarily better or worse than any other kind of church. But I can imagine if you’re used to that kind of theatre and ritual in your church ceremonies, then if it’s abolished you will feel peeved.

From a rational point of view, invoking the Holy Spirit and such are examples of “woo”, and possibly the speaking in tongues is a sign of mental instability, so from that point of view I’m happy that that church has stopped exploiting its parishioners.

it sounds so crazy , I should youtube it

holy shit 6minutes in lmao that is scary
