I'm looking for thoughts, opinions, and commentary on the following statement made by a believer: God allows evil in this world for a reason.

I wonder what that reason could be.........?

No answers for those questions, huh? Yup, mysterious ways indeed. #nogod #itsuptoustobedecenthumans

To reiterate Bill Maher, If their is no devil, there is no story because there is no bad guy.

Now to reiterate me. If God does allow evil and does so for reason, I will do evil and fullfill Gods will.

Just an excuse for the terrible people in the world. That same god blows down churches, schools and hospitals. What a great god!

Yes, because that book says it creates evil. So to apply logic and reasoning to other parts of that book: the ten commandments are subjective; that gods killings are subjective; that god telling others to kill is subjective and that it is omni present and powerful yet still needs others to tell you about it are parts of that book. Also, that book says homosapians are made in its image so it then blames them.

The problem of evil is unsolvable, and it is what first led me to my eventual unbelief. It has nothing to do with me, but I couldn't (and still can't) fathom how an omnipotent and benevolent entity could allow the merciless and unwarranted suffering of small children, whether at the hand of nature or other human beings. After hours of conversation with my pastor, it came down to the tired alibi, 'God works in mysterious ways.' Fuck that shit!

Let's go with multiple choice
A: god is evil
B: god is apethetic
C: god is ignorant
D: god is imaginary

Don't forget sadistic!

@starwatcher-al can I include that under A.

Very well said.

@JimG Sure , but it has more power if said separately.

All of the above and more!

Read Job...this is the part of the Babble that opened my eyes around age 10! Explain to me how giving Job all new wives & kids would negate the pain of losing the first bunch?!?!

@Matias Sadly though, absurd makes people feel all warm and fuzzy, and they feel loved by their master. Just sad.

@mathman27 ummm, yeah...the whole point of the book was Gawd inflicted awful suffering on every financial, physical & emotional level possible, even though Job was a faithful gawd-follower (blameless) to see if Job would stop worshipping him, then Gawd rewarded Job for his "steadfastness" by giving him much more than he had before.....lucky Job, he was now healed of his horrible boils & whatnot, had huge flocks of animals, and a whole bunch of new wives & kids. And he loved, praised & worshipped Gawd even more because of this bounty. Morons, both Job & gawd......

@mathman27 you do not consider giving painful boils, to mention just one thng, on purpose, to a blameless man, "pointless"? And cruel, and nasty? "BENEFIT"???????Replacement wealth and family? Yeah, it's all okay now.......
Oh, and BTW, (Not exactly BTW!), what did the original family do, to deserve death? Capricious evilness incarnate! You talk like a gawd-apologist no-matter-what!

@mathman27 maybe you could answer the Question about the (disposable) first family? You had no problem nitpicking every verse, every phrase, before. Oh, and BTW, "heroes" do something of their own volition to save others...Job is a hapless victim, period. I'll wait right here for your glossing-over of the destruction of the first family for no good reason, shall i?

@mathman27 I do not think they were "disposable"...your gawd thinks/acted on that idea all by her/himself. Ever lost a loved one? Do you feel they have been "replaced" by anyone new?
And why are you confusing Xianity with reincarnation? That's just weird.....

It all makes no sense to people of reason like we are. However, a believer has been so brainwashed into believing that everything is controlled by god that even when it doesn’t make sense to them they still trot our parrot fashion what they always use when faced with this question. You ask why did god allow such a bad thing to happen and so many people to die and their standard answer is “god has always got a reason, we just don’t know what is “. Mmh.....very convenient!

And how come we NEVER get to see the REASON. Why hide it if it's for the ultimate good of the world. After all if we had a clue as to the behind the scene goings on we might give god a little more credit and acceptance.

Ahh yes. "God's will." Very convenient indeed.
