The most useful thing a scientist could do would be, invent a time machine so I can travel back to 1999 (be on the safe side) and stuff Nader in a trunk for a year or two.

Also the same for Karl Rove, because without him, McCain would have been nominated, and he would have made the first decent Republican since Ike. It could have been a whole new era of centrist politics. Or else Gore could have mopped the floor with him, either one would be acceptable.
