Actually, I don't think it works that way. To the newborn, the parents ARE god... Parental responses, their touch, their tones, their talk, help wire the baby's brain as it develops. Babies and children see themselves as an extension of their parents and don't start developing "identity" until around two. By six they're starting to figure out that they're 'separate.'

It's true that the newborn doesn't think "god" because they don't ration at that point. But their lives are very much in the hands of others and their survival depends on something outside of themselves, and they accept that willingly until they start to develop a stronger sense of independence.
