One of the powers a skilled filmmaker has is the ability to recontextualize a familiar cultural artifact, such as a popular song, so that the imagery becomes linked when we respond emotionally to the tune's use in a film or a music video. In addition to Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, David Fincher, & the late Stanley Kubrick are/were all noted practitioners of this. What's cool is that we can add context of our own individual experiences and perspectives, so that the song doesn't necessarily have to conjure just one set of images. If you can never wipe Reservoir Dogs from your mind, remember that there's room for your own storyboard on it as well.
