If a child has an imaginary friend it is often a coping mechanism to help process stress or some kind of trauma. And many adults join or believe in a religious or faith based construct for the same reason(s). The true evil too me is not the concept of believing in that which is not provable rather it is the manipulation and use of that towards selfish and/or evil ends. Or as an individual the use of such a construct as a way of excusing behavior or bias without justification or cause. The child if healthy and nurtured will outgrow his/her imaginary friend, or do we as adults simply alter the core reasons into something else. No one has a perfect childhood and certainly not a perfect adulthood. We cope with religion, faith, alcohol, drugs, sex, violence.... We all cope somehow I think. I just want my way of coping with this fucked up world to cause as little damage to others and myself as possible.

I disagree..most religious people were brain-washed into their parents' religions in early childhood, before they became discerning and skeptical.

Agreed. I think people need something/someone bigger than themselves to cling to, to explain those things that are beyond their understanding and to have a sense of purpose. Though I've tried, religion does not work for me but it obviously works for others. And it should be used as a way to bring peace to those who accept it and want it and not to be used for power, abuse and to segregate

Yes, I would agree.

Sounds like a good attitude.
