The epitome of stubbornness:
"Someone just honked to get me out of my parking spot faster so now I have to sit here until both of us are dead."
Can you top that?
My daughter and I are a lot alike: intense, quick, high energy, funny, intelligent, passionate, determined, athletic and stubborn (personally, I prefer "strong willed" ).
"Nice try," I replied merrily when Claire was a teenager. She laughed.
"What part of 'NO' don't you understand?"
Photo: Claire, 26, and me, Christmas 2016.
In 2017, Claire had eye surgery that made her formerly, nearly-blind eyesight perfect. My strong and brave girl!
Can you see a family resemblance?
This is why I have water & granola bars, and dog treats, in my car at all times!
Me, too. I always have roasted almonds, snacks, and water in my car.
First aid kit in the trunk. In the winter, when driving over mountain passes, I throw in a small shovel and my sleeping bag.
Also granular kitty litter for traction on ice. It works.
I am glad that the surgery went well and yes I can see the resemblance. One head two arms and two legs, uncanny.
Did you move that damn car yet??
Very funny! That was a joke, it wasn't me.
Claire's eye surgery was done with ground-breaking, new technology. She found the best eye surgeon in the Seattle area.
"When I got home, my eyesight improved every hour," Claire said after her surgery. "It was incredible. A miracle!"
Like her father, Claire felt embarrassed by her 1/2" thick glasses. Now she doesn't need glasses or contact lens.
@LiterateHiker I've worn glasses since I was 5 my sight is annoying but I can deal with it.
I am very happy for Claire science in general has made great progress.?
Claire's cornea had to be thick enough. The was one of four requirements to be a candidate for the new type of eye surgery.
Love it ?? I didn't think anyone on the planet was more stubborn than my niece until my daughter was born. Great photo. Hope you're not still sitting in the parking lot. ??
Fabulous photo!
Thank you! Claire's coat was a Christmas gift from her fiance' Matt. It has a zip-out lining because our girl is always hot.
"I'm wearing long underwear," Claire said, to my surprise. I was freezing with bare legs. Idiot.
"I want to keep Claire safe and warm," Matt said. That's what every parent wants.
@LiterateHiker what a loving thing to say!
Yes, Matt's comment warmed my heart.
I always tried to keep Claire safe and warm. She runs hot. I run cold, so I dressed her for the temperature I felt. Oops.
If I had a nickel for every jacket and sweater I picked up, after Claire shrugged it off and ran away, I'd be rich!
"....now I have to sit here till we're both dead...." Hilarious! Great share!
When people get on my ass on the freeway I just go slower until they pass me. I will not be intimidated like that.
Nope, LH, I can't top that, and even if I could I wouldn't tell you about it over the internet. But I still love ya.
Ah... shucks...gee...(sound of scraping a hiking boot.) Thanks!
I like you, too.
@LiterateHiker Hey! Watch those boots. They're expensive.
No kidding, Don! My narrow, Lowa hiking boots cost $230. They last 800 miles, or if I'm lucky, four years. Can't resole them.
@LiterateHiker I was only partly kidding. One the other hand, they're your boots. Throw them in the fire if it makes you happy. I'll watch with a big smile.
Velcro straps I made for Karen and me, to hold on our $86 Micro-Spikes (pIctured). Don't want to lose them in the snow.
My beloved hiking boots, meticulously waterproofed.
@LiterateHiker That's a lotta boot. You get those at REI? I think what I wear hiking costs less than your ice spikes. You need to take me shopping.
Lowa boots are the only narrow size REI carries. They fit me like a glove.
