Are there any people here who used to be religious but are now non-believers? How did the transitition make you feel? Do you feel more content and stable in the world than you did before? Or vice-versa? Or something else completely?

Like any major life change, it was a hassle in some ways, but did make me "more content and stable in the world than before" and so was worth it. I left Christian fundamentalism because it did not accurately predict or explain experienced reality, and I don't like surprises like that. Got tired of it.

Now I have realistic expectations and am a lot happier for it.

Unfortunately I still have religious tattoos. ?. There was a time in my life I felt like I wasn’t enough or strong enough and felt like I really NEEDED a savior. I was told if I didn’t “feel” what I was supposed to it was because something was in the way. I didn’t believe enough or I was holding on to sin

I definitely feel more confident now! I don’t need a savior or a man or anyone for that matter.

When I finally gave SERIOUS thought to a God and religions, it just didn’t make any sense to me and I put it out of my mind right then.

It took me many years but I am comfortable now with my beliefs. Religion infiltrated everything I was and it took a long time to weed out the brainwashing crap. In the 80s I was taught it was wrong for men to wear sleeveless shirts. What the hell? I couldn't see Star Wars because of the Force. My sisters weren't allowed to wear pants. Crazy crazy stuff!
