I know it's trendy, but I've been trying to meditate within the last year or two. I mainly attempt it when I'm lounging in the sun with a trusty cocktail by my side. It wasn't until I started meditating that I realized all the random thoughts that enter and leave my train of thought. I liken my consciousness very much to when I go online to search a specific item/topic etc. It never fails. 20 minutes into my session, I pick my head up to find myself searching and have searched many totally unrelated topics or items and generally end up totally forgetting the entire reason that I jumped on line in the first place. My question is this, has anyone else practiced meditating and can you provide tips, suggestions etc.?

My dad told me he uses the porcelian God to meditate. At his age, I'm guessing it's an excellent way to find "inner" peace. ?

Let those thoughts drift on through without giving them undue attention. Like clouds drifting by in the sky. Let it all go, and just be.

Yes, I meditate all the time.
What works best for me is to get comfortable somewhere, or just get quiet while walking outside, and focus on the ambient noise..distant traffic, bird calls, a lawn mower, etc.

Then I allow my brain to go out of focus while concentrating on the sounds. I know it worked if I find myself "waking up" a while later, with no sensation of the passing of time.

Doing this allows me to access my subconscious mind, which remembers everything I've experienced, and soon afterward I'll start coming across solutions to problems and/or having opportunities drop into my lap.
