To prepare for winter hiking
Put long gaiters, micro-spikes and snowshoes in the car trunk.
Switch winter hiking clothes to the front of the closet.
Add my backpacking down comforter and foam pad to sit on snow.
Switch to insulated water bottles.
Carry extra gloves and mittens in my pack. Also waterproof glove covers.
I live in Chicago and I'm a fairly talented seamstress, so I am making myself a fabulous new coat.
I live in Florida. What is this winter of which you speak?
And how can I get some?
Drag out the warm clothes and snow scrapers and such and wish I lived in a house and could build a fire.
Like you I’ve got loads of logs,.I had two mighty trees cut down earlier in the year because they had become unstable and I had fears they could fall on the house. I also have oil fired central heating and had 900 litres delivered yesterday......£470!
Add a shovel to emergency supplies in my car trunk.
Very funny! It's to dig out my car if it gets stuck in snow, especially on mountain passes.
I already have granular kitty litter for traction on ice.
I loathe cats. I love Dave Barry's joke about cats:
"If left to their own devices, cats would lead humans into a whirling blade."
@LiterateHiker Aw, you make me sad. Cats are the best. They would murder us all in our sleep, of course, if they were bigger and had opposable thumbs. But they don't, so we're good.
