I grew up on the coast of North Carolina. Normally I photograph the beauty of the place l call home - Florence potentially could change all of that.
I am on the disaster team through my work. It seems truly surreal that I have been called up, we leave Saturday morning, to help those who potentially could be my friends and family. To say I am scared is probably an understatement - I hope my heart can handle what I may be viewing over the next few days.

I'm not religious but I'm still sending up a little prayer for Ocracoke Island. I love that place like no other. This looks really really bad. Hoping the OBX is spared the worst. <3

Me too.
I was born in Sealevel - a short ferry ride & a quick drive away from Ocracoke.

Wishing you well and strength in your endeavor. The forecast sure doesn't look very promising, but those like you and many others who step up to help in time of need are to be commended and honored. It takes a special person to step into a disaster area and help people try to put their lives back together. Thank you for your service and I am sure the people you help will be eternally grateful as well; family, friends or strangers.

Thank you
