@RobLawrence I think a person can be insecure, mean and sadistic all at the same time.
I think those who are most vocal about professing their religious beliefs underneath have the largest doubts and are trying to convince themselves as well as others, and they will commit heinous acts to "prove" their beliefs. They may even come to enjoy and crave the power they get from their sadistic acts against others committed to prove to themselves how much they actually do believe.
The Catholic God has always struck me as incredibly human and incredibly male in his description. Hum, wonder why that could be?
