My contract job ended last week. It was a short assignment, but fun. Great group of people. I always feel an emptiness when a contract ends. You work with people. Get to know them a bit. And then you leave. Onward to the next contract.

That's one reason why I like Facebook (even with its faults). I can stay in touch with people all around the world.

Do you move around in the same locality or have to travel further afield? My son used to be an IT contractor when he first graduated and moved around the country taking six or nine month contracts. This meant he never put down roots anywhere for a number of years and loved it when he was in his twenties, but found as he got older and everyone else was settled with partners and families that he was an outsider everywhere. He then decided to come back nearer to home and take a permanent postion with more security and has gradually built a network of friends....but he’s still looking for his life partner at 41. He has a newish lady friend so I am hoping she will be “the one”!

It's the same with short term teaching assignments in little beach side Buddhist temple schools here in Songkhla, Thailand, except I feel no regret and just fall in love with the next set of students.

Students sound more enjoyable. I may substitute teach this fall.
