They would be better using their resources to eradicate the trade in ivory and rhinocerous horn and other quack remedies and trade that goes on there...

Wow. By "positive" I'd assume you mean by improving education and quality of life or not allowing religious rights to justify gross behaviors or harmful rituals.

The problem with forcing people is that you create martyrs, which tends to only strengthen religions like the Christians. Christians seem to be a bit masochistic in that they revel in suffering and seem to act as if their suffering proves them to be right.

I don't think that it is a "positive" move. People ought to be able to practice what they believe in as long as that practice is normative.

They are trampling on human rights, but they are correct about Christianity being bad for the Chinese.
