There are concret/pipe markers in my backyard, mostly under inches of dirt, that are referenced in my deed, and used by surveyors when the property next door sold.

Do you do conventional or gps, or both? We’re mainly gps, unless the job needs the theodolite.

mainly just me... i got one helper and another that does field work and draft a bit....
i have a sokkia cx105
carlson network rover.
and
chc i 80 (one base and a rover which can also go on network)...from igage..
carlson dc's and carlson oem cad.
i have demo'd $20k network leica and i don't like'uh... they are too proprietary (when i was demo'ing the leica i needed to switch between leica and carlson and carlson couldn't do the format. and the things 14 or whatever 14 couldn't come close to locking where my years old carlson rover with passive antennae would.
looking to get a robotic soon.
i find myself ALWAYS using gps even on mortgage/residential surveys and then if the house has many corners or there are trees, i use the TS. - trying to build up files on subdivisions with a cad field file. i guess that's the over info answer.
what type of work do you do mainly? title company? private call ins? i mainly do work the title cos send me.

are you the rpls? what do you do? i see you're in conroe...not too far from me. from you saying theodolite, i'm guessing you're in your 50's.....maybe 60's

@SeeCanU I’m just a field worker, we do construction and land work, residential also, but I mainly do new construction layout. We do a lot of apartment complexes. I’ve been doing survey work for about 6 years.

@NothinnXpreVails cool. i don't do much construction at all.
i'm usually romping thru the woods and briars.

@SeeCanU oh I get my share of thorns, ticks, and mosquitoes in the wild, too
By the way, I hear that Vick’s Vapor Rub wiped on your body keeps the mosquitoes away. I’ve never tried it, though.

@NothinnXpreVails i use repellant if im going in a yard with st augustine grass. before i put on my clothes, i have a mix of repel 100 and campho phenique that i spray on my ankles, behind my knees and around my waste. then use regular repel and spray on my pants then some on a napkin and put on my ears to keep the gnats away.

@SeeCanU I usually just light another cigarette and try to keep blowing smoke around....

@NothinnXpreVails lol.. i don't smoke but i have had more than one helper say that. i guess it works.

What about it?

i was up late last night and wondering if anybody knows my pain. is that what you do?

@SeeCanU I've been involved with it before.

@bingst on the work end? or the client end?

@SeeCanU Both. Why don't you stop beating around the bush and get to the details?

@bingst lol.. i was thinking that too.
last night i was trying to figure out something.. looking at deeds on both sides of a railroad to figure the row - why an adjoiner corner is 10' into the railroad row (100' row with tracks centered - 'are tracks centered - not always'πŸ˜‰. i'm usually up half the night cad work and work half a day outside. my dad was a surveyor and i have been doing it for 30+yrs and licensed for 7yrs. my dad was an asshole and i'm now understanding why. the job can make somebody pretty impatient - heat, chiggers, snakes, sweat, brush, briars, (thankfully no cudzoo). what i was wondering is how anybody manages to not become a complete asshole with people constantly asking "what's the status" and 'when and how much'.. and 'you think it'lll be done tomorrow? ...when it's raining etc. etc. seems like people think the only thing we do is go out and tie up a bunch of ribbon and call it a day and that map makes itself since the equipment is so advanced (i carry over 30k worth of equipment - just the pole and that thingy is 10k). it's high stress daily. BUT today i did have a moment of levity when i was talking to the owner of the property i was at today... i told him that the job is so much more pleasant when the owner is not an asshole. he said yea....my dad was a pentecostal preacher (i was thinking ono...).. and he goes on to say "i'm not religious at all"... i said me neither i'm atheist. he said he is to and showed me his sticker .... before i saw it i said 'what is it - a fish with dna symbol?".... it was a fish with evolve inside it. we had a laugh and shook hands and it made for a better day.

@SeeCanU Haha. Good story. You should just turn that into a post. I'm sure you'll get a some responses.

@bingst yea the guy is supercool and really pleasant to hang with. i was there yesterday and he helped me carry some stuff. i usually don't like to even talk when i'm working because then i forget something. but we had a pleasant time yesterday (that's why i told him it's pleasant when the guy's not an asshole)...then that's when he said his dad was a preacher. before he said he wasn't religious, he said that he tried to not let being an asshole rub off onto him....so apparently his dad was an asshole pentecostal preacher. but still a rainy day turns out to be cool. and that's actually the first time i met another atheist out 'in the wild'. thank you for reading and the replies!
