There was no individual 'Jesus'. Messiah literature exploded in popularity right after Romans destroyed Jerusalem. At best, he's an amalgam of several real people. At worst, an idea of 'Messiah', a bevy of ideas that resulted in dozens of stories, four of which we call gospels.

Men argued for centuries over hundreds of scrolls before 66 edited books emerged as the bible for some Christians. The argument over what is Scripture is still unsettled to this day!

jesus is today considered by christians, bless their little hearts, to be the savior, or, as the greeks say, christ. that's supposed to be a translation of messiah, but in fact it is very VERY different from what messiah means. messiah is a jewish concept, and there is no jewish concept of being saved; saved from what? there is no jewish conception that someone can take on, or absolve, someone else's sins. in judaism, even god cannot forgive sins against another party. the messiah, in judaism, is a human being, a king, who brings about peace in his own time. that's all. that's pretty different from a savior, yes?

but of course the rest of what you say is spot on. i am quibbling ONLY with the use of the word "messiah."

Jesus of Nazareth? Did you know that Nazareth didn't exist until the late 3rd century?

That was my understanding too, but the Xians get nasty in their disagreements.

I've found that when xtians make a claim they are lying over 90% of the time. A quick google search proves it. And yes, they do get nasty each time you prove them wrong.
