Is it possible to keep your child away from the idea of religion? I want her to make her own choices about it as she grows up, not have others force feed her supernatural ideas. Is this realistic with her mother's side of the family being religious?

I taught my kids that religion exists. Because I don't want them to feel I hide the truth or tried to manipulate their choice.
I even allowed them to attend children services when they wanted to go.
However, I would calmly explain that no one knows the absolute truth and I would be suspicious of anyone who claims they do.
That they should question everything and anything that seems surreal, unrealistic, or makes them feel uncomfortable.
They finally quit going when they used scientific reasoning against the great flooding. The preacher didn't say they couldn't return, but he was less than welcoming afterward.

The influence you can control at home will have the greatest credibility to your daughter but you cannot keep her entirely away from the idea of religion. I was in line at a supermarket when my daughter was around 4 years old. A very large and pretty old man with a booming voice was behind us. He made some innocent comments to my daughter then bent down and boomed out, "Well, you are a good Christian aren't you? Aren't you?" My daughter knew then that she wasn't a Christian. She was quite taken back and didn't know what to say and just silently stared at this guy. The big old guy did a few more "Aren't yous" before I ushered her out of there. The old man was an idiot but he was very old-school and had no idea his comment was possibly inappropriate. I was not up for a debate with him that he wouldn't even understand so we just left and discussed it on the way home.

I chose to introduce my children to the Catholic (or which ever you choose) when the were so that they could make an informed decision for themselves as they got older. When they ask, give them your point of view!! Wish your family the best in your decision. PS. Three out of three are free thinkers!!!
