Be it religion or capitalism pure or adulterated it's always about monopolies and submission. Would the incense smuggled into the temple be a less effective conduit to purvey prayers into some divine auditory orifice? Most Chinese don't believe that part of the yarn. However, they believe the prayer bit and the necessity to keep in touch with their ancestors.
Note: Our temple offers you incense and blessings ... to inflated prices.
So called capitalism is not about monopolies at all. It’s about trading in goods and services, and has nothing in common with religion.
Monopolies, or near monopolies come and go, but in general, business organizations tend to become larger for a good reason: efficiency. New technology along with modern transportation and communication enable economy of scale, and everyone benefits from that.
