If you want an inexpensive zero-emission vehicle, here's an idea; Peugeot's tilting PHEV scooter.
It has two electric in-wheel motors, an internal combustion engine, and a 48 V Samsung battery to have a range of 186 miles.
The electric motors go 43.5 mph in the city, but on the open road the 31-kW single-cylinder gasoline engine can reach 80 mph.
A hydraulic tilting system makes it easy to drive, the heated cabin has seatbelts and airbag, and the doors rotate in line with the body to make parking in tight spaces easier.
For zipping around town it's perfect. I would not go on the freeway, but that's just me.
I keep trying to find an alternate zero-emission vehicle to drive, but I suppose this scooter does have limitations if I intend to travel out of state or take passengers and luggage with me.
