I'm called a pessimist, told that I have a negative attitude about life because I don't hold much hope for the future of humanity on this planet. I think I'm a realist, attempting to look at a subject objectively. and when I ponder the subject of human existence on planet earth I don't hold out much hope for us as a species, and I'm ok with that.

we all know how much damage we have done, and continue to do, to mother earth. we all know that the natural world is a delicately balanced piece of work and must be treated as such. but we don't. instead, we shit where we eat, pollute what we breathe and poison what we drink. strike one

we, like every other animal, struggle to survive; we're adversarial by nature; red vs blue, yankees vs red sox, coke vs pepsi, ford vs chevy, etc. we've been killing each other as long as we've existed and I don't see that changing anytime ever. besides, now we can kill everyone in all sorts of cool ways! swing and a miss, strike two

and then there's those pesky necessities like food and water. the earth's ability to sustain its human population will be stressed more in the next forty years than it has been over the last four thousand. the next war may be about oil, but the last war will be about water. strike three and that's the ball game

personally, I feel that the only way to preserve this planet and all of the life upon it is to get rid of us. otherwise I don't hold out much hope for us. sad but true.

Every force in the universe boils down to 2 energies. Positive and Negative. These energies infect all life force. You might call it your gas. You will run much more efficiently on positive energy thant negative. Negative energy mirror images. Whatever you send out into the universe you get back. Negative energy is draining and causes illness. You can pass these energies back and forth subsciously. You hear the words in their simplest forms all the time. Good/Bad, Yin/Yang. Righgt.Wrong, Yes/No. Heaven/Hell, Life/Death. In physics, a law of energy, is that it can be transformed but not destroyed. This is a truth. There may be so minimal losses, but true energy cannot be destroyed. I try to think to always on the sunnyside of life!

Well there is one theory that the sun will supernova in 13 billion years, or was it 6 billion? Either way, the earth itself will not last forever. I think the difference between a realist and a pessimist is that the realist tries to do things to prevent or reverse damage as long as possible (meaning damage we cause, obviously you can't prevent a supernova billions of years in the future) while a pessimist says, why bother? Sometimes optimists don't bother either because they don't take the danger seriously enough.

Nature is ruthless. You might get your wish. But I think a super virus or other pathogen may kill most but not all. It will be natural selection that will bring balance to this earth😉

And it'll probably be a super virus engineered by humans.

I'm with you on this.

I see what you are describing. I can only try to make the best of things as they are in front of me.It is all I can possibly control . I can still see beauty, Even people in the death camps of Germany could find meaning and that was how they survived

I agree with you for the most part. However, I don't think it is accurate for people to call you a pessimist and automatically associate an optimist with something to be desired. Consider a trainload of Jews on the way to an extermination camp...a pessimist would say "They are going to kill us...I have to find a way to escape from this train." An optimist would say "They are not savages nor can they kill all of us." Optimists are generally fools who do not have the intellect to see what is coming.

Agreed. The planet will survive. We won't.

I agree...and yet I don't. I see all that you see, and yes, it's all true.

It is also true that humans are incredibly clever, and adapt to widely varying conditions.

There is going to be a lot of loss. Already has been, and it's accelerating.

But I believe that hope--not blind optimism, but hope--is both warranted and necessary. Hope is what helps us to keep working on the problems that face us, instead of just giving up and not being a part of potential solutions.

I would rather be down in the bowels of the Titanic, working the pumps to try to save the ship, than upstairs enjoying whiskey and doing nothing. Maybe it's futile, but the future is unknown--we simply don't know that yet.

A fundamental requirement for our survival is to do something about greed and ignorance which includes lack of respect for nature, the way things have been so perfectly created. Ignorance prevails in highly developed knowledge circles when the unknown factor, which always exists, is ignored. Without that nothing will work.

Although the things you state are all true please attempt to make life as pleasant for yourself and others you are fond of. No one likes the pessimist who always looks on the negative. look for the beautiful and do what you are able to do to correct the bad things. Life is way to short! Try to live it as best as you can. Just ask a terminally ill person what they would give to be well and live! I always found the people who complained about anything never did anything positive to correct the problem.Don't waste your life ,be happy for what you have and work to improve your life and everyone else's.Get a puppy they will make you smile a lot.

I'm a realist, too. Short of nothing less than a major asteroid sized object big enough to wipe out every piece of crust on Earth, we will never be eliminated. We are the cockroaches of the mammal world. As soon as we colonize another planet or moon, not even that will do.

2

you are a realist as I see the same
