Happens all the time. Unless you spend a lot of time checking privacy settings every time you use the internet there is no way you can escape it. It doesn't bother me since I have no money and can't buy what they are pushing at me, so I just ignore the ads. Sometimes I make a silly enquiry just to see what they come up with. It can be fun.
Why I avoid google. They track you. Read the post I made about the end of net nutreality.
if you are using the internet, it might be related. otherwise, it might be Bader-Meinhoff.
I have a hard time believing that they are able to sift through the information presented even in one hours communications between every person on the phone, through texts, and on the internet fast enough to present ads about the conversations, but I know if you use some of google's services they have algorithms that do that for them, using targeted keywords.
Yup.. Google. Which must have some connection to Facebook. Happens there too
@Nichole765 then yes. there are terms of service items all over every service they have a connection to that explain that they do monitor what passes through their services, up to and including chat content. it isn't live people looking at what you are doing, though, it's just computer algorithms picking up keyed content. I hope, anyway...
@HereticSin they don't do a great job. Lol It's never anything I want.
I once did a search for "Dallas Cowboys", now I keep getting ads for gay bars.
So very freaky. Sometimes I'll be on the phone, talking about something. Then Boom. Ads.
No, can't say that it has ever happened to me.
