Is the American president thought of as some one who not only gives political leadership but spiritual as well, like an American version of a pope? They always seem very religious and act as though they are a pope it seems?
In America, non-believers are considered the least trust-worthy group of people. Therefore, the population predominantly votes for religious zealots like trump and bush. We're definitely the new ni**ers. "This is god's land and if you don't like it, leave" which sounds a lot like "Go back to Africa."
I think they're just playing the numbers.
Most of the population of the US believes in God (Christians) so they pander to them to get votes.
They'll announce their particular beliefs, open meetings with prayers, and end every speech with a hearty "God bless America".
If the beliefs of the population start to change to non-believers I think we'll see a downturn in this shameful behavior.
It probably won't stop completely, but I think it will get better.
No American President has ever been accused of being infallible. And I think it's been -- trying to remember when Avignon was -- 900 years ago that a pope was "removed from office." The religion connection is strictly through what our courts call "ceremonial deism." He's basically just expected to say "God bless America" every once in a while. Not to be a hard-nose, but could you describe how you view presidents as either spiritual or religious?
Seems some do and some don't, the current one acts like more of a dolt than a pope.
