After 3 years on a variety of dating sites I have discovered the rule of 18.
I browsed 100s if not 1000's of profiles........I'm very numerate and analytical ......

My research showed that the average Brit even with a degree at around 57 yrs , wants a guy 15 yrs younger , but a max of only 3 yrs older...or inbetween.....

If she has a ma or phd the range is still 18 yrs...but , this time it's plus or minus 9 yrs.......to me it's strange that plus 3 yrs becomes plus 9 yrs.....no complants , but why I wonder...??? My late GF had a music phd , always liked older guys , even in her 20 's.....
This ignores Hispanic attitudes to preferences older guys.

Problem is that phd ladies are rare on dating sites. ..I know. I've searched. ..hope this helps ...

Lol. Guys my age either don't ask or, they do, we start dating & I turn out not to be his cup of tea because I'm 'too busy' or I'm not 'spontaneous' enough, etc. (I work full time, have jobbies/interests, & I do not own a TV).

Younger guys ask. We go out, they are active & keep busy, just like me. We make plans, & time for each other.

Then again, its probably because I'm not looking for a 'one & only'. If it happens, great. If it doesn't thats ok too. I've been a self rescuing princess for a long time now...which is probably off putting for guys my age too, from what has been said.

Yes,never lower your self esteem to be able to date, keep your principles. I'm a Widower, lost wife of 27 years last Sept. Why are the 20 and 30 somethings picking me? I've no vast wealth, getting by,yes I'd love to marry again, and have used about every dating site, from E harmony to Zoosk, some free, others a monthly membership, after a while they blur together, many times the same Woman is on multiple sites,"(maybe to increase their odds of being in the right place)?

Interesting! I wonder if the bias toward younger men reflects fear of being widowed by guys much older. There also could be a higher apparent (might not be real) leaning toward conservative, religious, or patriarchial attitudes toward women as a man's age increases.

Of course, it seems that men tend to want to date younger women as well. Perhaps both genders are drawn to the beauty +/- sexual vibe of those "in their youthful prime".

It might be interesting to ask and see how folks answer...
