I read the article. Pretty good primer on principles of thinking clearly. But I find myself wondering how it gets applied usefully in a political sense, since it did focus on political camps, loosely, of conservative vs progressive. As the article pointed out, conservatives tend to prefer concrete dichotomies, rather than to admit and embrace the many subtle gray areas of reality. Not mentioned at all, that I could find in the article, was the problem that thirst for power by some political leaders (this includes behind-the-scenes types like the Koch brothers) is a driving force shaping political messages at any given time. So while any of us may think the quest to discern reality accurately is in everyone's best interest, there are focused, motivated and powerful forces doing their worst to try to confuse and obscure objective, factual reality. The denial of climate change is a case in point. It is not a mystery why religion has become so prominently wrapped up in right-wing politics. It is because it is a useful tool for confusing masses of people and interfering with critical thinking. It appeals to emotions and dismissive of objective logic.
