I am a feminist first. Liberal second, atheist third
The main issue in the world is that we all started with a primitive, tribal, paternalistic social structure. Religion in each tribe was created to legitimize the existing male power structure. As we get more knowledge, we are shedding the “father knows best” and “my tribe is more important than other tribes” mind set. However those who received privilege from this primitive culture, do not want change.
Isn’t it funny that the men from the most dominant tribe in each country always resist change. But the women and minorities in each country want the society to be more inclusive.
So it is not surprising the most of white males in America still support Trump. Or the majority of Shi’ite males in Iran support their shi’ite dominated rigid religious government or majority of Brahmins in India support their center right Brahmin dominiated semi fascist Indian government.
As women in America started beating men in education and as their earning power started to rise, they finally could survive and even thrive on their own. This change in social standing allowed them to demand more political power and fight for social change.
So while 75% of non college white males still support Trump( even though they know he is a crook, a misogynist and a bigot), , 63% of college educated white females are now against Trump.

The fight is not as much between democrats and Republicans. It is more about women and minority revolt against white male control of society.

This is why we are seeing almost twice as many female candidates representing the Democratic Party. And they are running against GOP reps who are predominantly white males.

I am an atheist because I see religion as a misogynist and bigoted ideology.

You’ve framed it as male vs. female. With that, is there any reason a male should support a female? If the best you can do is perpetuate an ‘us vs. them’ mentality … then the gender capable of exerting the most physical strength will continue to dominate. If you want equality, and not dominance, prove it ~

Exactly what i was thinking

I did not say it is male versus female. I just said females want same rights and men want to preserve their privilege. So it is more women Dem candidates and more men GOP candidates. What you failed to read was males like me ( millions of minority men liv Ng in America) would rather vote for a nice woman who wants equality for everyone, than a bigoted, white GOP male candidate.

@Veteran229
If you do not know that as a white male you have prvilage than it would be hard for me to address this issue. But I will try
White male privilege is “ an institutional sets of unearned benefits granted to males of white European origin”.
Examples: A white male with a college GPA of 3.5 in engineering or marketing or computer science gets twice as many job offers as a female or Black male with the same GPA. Plus he makes or is offered a starting salary that is on the average 5% or more than a female with similar qualification.
He is more apt to get a promotion.
The paternalistic culture allows him to get more second chances when compared to women.
For the same crime a black man on the average gets six months more prison time than a white male.
I can give 5000 more examples.
Our religions give men more power . Our culture raises their level constantly above women.
According to a Harvard study women CEO have been performing better males,
Yet Only 6% of CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are females.
In lower educated jobs a factory worker ( mostly men) make twice as much as a hotel cleaner ( mostly women).
As cities and progressive states increase minimum wages, the poverty rate among women with full time jobs falls drastically and the income disparity between men and women declines.
I hope I made the point clear. But if you want to know more, go to a library and read about rate difference in any job

@Shahabahmedibc Some appear to relish victim status to the point they seek it out.. I know ..too many; fighting real or perceived oppression becomes the motivating factor within their lives.

It’s not your status in life, it’s what you do with your opportunities. ‘White women’ are the majority within the USA, I’d suggest they fight, sounds as though you’re suggesting they whine..

The labeling as of late doesn’t help ..though occasionally guilty of it myself (when describing the ‘far wrong’ ), but if you want to encourage ‘men’ to vote again for trump or his surrogates, you’re off to an excellent start ~

[edited to remove stupid smiley faces that appear do to punctuation]

@Varn
What you are trying to tell me is that if I say white males are privilaged, it will push them to Trump. But that is already happening at a rate.
If you look at the history of white working class males moving from the Democratic Party to GOP, it started with the civil rights, women’s rights and LBGTQ rights movements of the sixties.
The fact that 75% of the non college educate men from the dominant tribe voted for Trump, who openly uttered bigoted, misogynistic and tribal garbage, is directly related to rise of women as a political and economic force.
Today the progressive movement leaders are college educated women of all colors. While they are abondoning organized religion, culture of patriarchy and GOP , the non college educated men ( almost all white) are flocking to leaders who promise to take America back to the time of Jim Crow, male dominance and tribal thought process.

What you are saying is that everyone should lie and not point out the misogyny existing in the society as it might offend the male fragility. Truth is truth.Males ( especially white males) need to learn. Already in an open and less sexist college education system, women are thriving and men have started to fall behind. Women now account for 60% of graduate school degrees.

I became a feminist when as a successful global trade analyst I decided to work from home and take care of the children at the same time. I realized how hard it was to change the diapers ( when they were extremely young) , cook and feed the children( as they we growing up), go to their after school programs. Attend soccer games. And still earn a good living. I did this only because my ex wife who worked outside the home, pitched in when she returned home. Men were nasty to me. Most of them thought I was living on my wife’s income. When I would tell them I made three times more money, they would simply not believe me. Reason. Why would I cook and go to all the after school activities. They just couldn’t understand that I wanted to do those things.

Most of the after school programs were attended by a few fathers but tons of mothers. Did not know many fathers who did the cooking for their children. Most of the women not only worked but also did those things.

Look the world is changing. Women are refusing to be second class citizens. As men, we have to nudge other men accept women as equals.

To say that men voted for Trump because feminists forced them to take that path makes no sense.

@Shahabahmedibc ‘Trying to tell you?’ ...you’re obviously invested bigtime in this narrative, but don’t expect me to do the same. ‘What I am saying’ is if you label ‘White men’ as “privileged,” you will lose the support of, not only those you’re already lost, but those you’ve yet to lose.

What I’m saying?’ ...there you go again - No, what you’ve written is what you’re saying. Don’t attempt to put your words in my mouth..

OK, finally, common ground! I was thee ‘at home dad’ and primary caregiver for my two daughters, from birth … for which I attended every birthing class along with my wife ..reading 3 additional books on the subject. Raised them in the woods, then educated them ‘at home’ after their introduction to public school. Rave reviews for the final product, but I didn’t receive disrespect from my fellow men, they’d step back ..then sheepishly admit, ‘they couldn’t it.’ I’d assure them, they could.

I also remember how few woman would approach us at public parks, for instance.. But when they needed someone to deal with the playground bully, they’d turn to me, which I’d already instinctively sized up, and dealt with 🙂 I’m as proud of my daughters (now college graduated young women) as they are their dad. Actually had one visiting, from 3K away last week…

We’ve learned about ‘feminism’ from each other, and seem light years ahead of the rest of this society. We found that working as a team, all aspects of a ‘human unit’ each doing what they do best for the betterment of the whole, was the way. We each had our skills and capabilities, still do. We complement, not compete.

I’ve actually got to head off to work.. But may check in for more. If not, I want to remind you that turning off ‘guys like me’ is a dangerous tactic for us both, cuz ultimately, I’m on ..your side. Having given up the ‘privilege’ you describe decades ago with my open Atheism, letters to editors supporting women's rights, including to chose having children ..and a shitlist of other irritations to those in a frightened and thinning minority.

I do agree! I remember when I was in second grade, lying in my bed & imagining a sort of step ladder, with men on top, women on the second rung, kids on the third, with dogs, cats & horses sharing the forth, on down past other species ranked according to how humans view them. I wasn't very aware of racial differences at that time, but it's easy to see how race is also fitted into that hierarchy. But to me at that time the main realization was that they were all simply life forms & the only thing that placed them on their assigned rungs was the opinions of the human life forms on top of them.
