Do you agree that all forms of religion should be banished from the Earth as a bad case of mental illness?

People are free to practice/believe whatever they want as as it is confined to, and affecting only that person. No activity that affects anyone other than onself should be justifiable by religious reasons alone.

In other words, religion/religious practice should not be cited as the justification in any litigation.

Definite yes on the taxes. I didn't mean it to sound like I agreed, still pondering the ideal.

In summary:

1

No I think people should be free to worship who they want but I do think religous organizations should pay taxes.

2

Words like banished and labeling things a "mental illness makes me very uncomfortable. Fascism is attempting to control or dictate someones beliefs and is the root of many of the atrocities in this world. No I don't agree. The best approach is to present reality and support people through the process.

Such an old idea, and it’s been tried multiple times all around the world, never to avail.

Other than pure ego, why would anyone have the arrogance to impose their views through coercion?

No - people should be free to believe what they want. Truth is eternal, eventually all should discover it.

I suspect that the problem of religion is much more complex than we like to believe.. The idea of attempting to control/suppress someone's belief system sounds alien to me no matter what methods are used in the process. I also suspect that the consequences could be disastrous. The problem is not religion per se but imposing religion on others. Children are particularly vulnerable and easy to influence therefore religion could be particularly harmful to them therefore I think more efforts should be made to stop the parents from imposing religion on their children. Actually imposing religion on others should be made illegal. But, how easy is it to define "imposing" and how far can you go when deciding what it is harmful and what it is not when parents present religion to their children? And after you have made imposing religion on others illegal what methods are you going to come up with to ensure law enforcement? It doesn't look to me that there is an easy answer to the malady called religion unfortunately.

Religion is one form of the mental illness known as Delusional Disorder, Diagnostic code DSM-5 297.1.

We have to have freedom for people to believe the most idiotic things they want to believe. However....we don't have to treat religion with "kid gloves." The media and our governments should be exposing the fraud of religion as a service to protect our citizens just as any other fraud is exposed and people are warned. And all tax benefits currently given to religion should be stopped.

The communist did ban religion but it is making a comeback in the former communist countries.

I think it has to be exposed as a fraud @Trajan61

@nicknotes Unfortunately That would likely cause war and it wouldn’t be worth the cost.

Maybe....but fraud needs to be exposed as fraud. @Trajan61

@nicknotes Yes I agree but the cost might be to high. It’s hard to overcome years of religous indoctrination.

The media hasn't helped. @Trajan61

@nicknotes No they haven’t and I think they are also afraid to take on the religous establishment.

""Know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free"". If only the religious would find the real truth that religion is a fraud.@Trajan61

@nicknotes That would be great but I don’t see that happening anytime in the near future.

no. if we do not allow people to have their delusions, we will one day not be allowed to have our evidence-based lives. power shifts. we must protect those with whom we least agree or we are not protected either. freedom of religion and freedom from religion go hand in hand. only education will help dispel the delusions, if anything indeed can. legislating against it will drive it underground and strengthened it.

Yeah, I'm just thinking about the mountains of money going towards, what are now, religious wars.

Imagine all that money and other resources and projects that get burned up in making the M.I.C. the wealthiest sector of the inflated economy.

Also, the churches, instead we should have a more value added community. Bringing people together and turning from what divides us, to what, still, unites us.

Well said btw.

@Infomaniac thanks. yes, the money should be taxed, and the fraudulent ways of its being amassed can be curtailed without banning religion. it won't help, of course; it will just go into the ACUAL wealhiest sector of the economy: the war machine.
