No, Atheists Aren't Fundamentalists, and Here’s Why - Genetically Modified Skeptic
Words! Words, words, words! They trip us up. It all depends on what meaning we give to a word. I guess everybody has a right to relate to a given word however they do. There are people who might call me an atheist... because I don't believe in a literal god. And there are people who might call me a theist... because I think the word "god" is a perfectly acceptable word to use in place of "reality".
But I don't care to use either atheist or theist to describe myself, because in common parlance both terms are understood to be positions relative to a literal god.
When I meet the first atheist who claims that metaphor doesn't exist I may have to rethink this... but it hasn't happened yet.
The god that every atheist I have ever met claims not to believe in is a literal god.
