Excellent question!

Let me clarify my response. They do not have the right to do so. They enter into an agreement with the facility to pick up whatever patients come through the door on thier call. I’ve known surgeons of all stripes from the ultra religious to the liberal. Surgeons don’t get into your personal business.. they are not in your life long enough to care most of the time. They only care about whether you have insurance or not.

They should.

In twenty five years, I’ve never seen a CV surgeon or any member of our open heart team for that matter, refuse care for any reason. They may have fired the patient later for being an ass.. but that’s a different story.

gay heart surgeons would never be so cruel. there are probably straight heart surgeons who would refuse to save the lives of gays and that is the natural next step now that it's legal for bigoted cake shop owners to discriminate. alas.
