It is DEFINITELY not acceptable by 21st century standards. Neither was hanging, drawing and quartering people or burning people at stakes for worshiping god with the wrong hat on. Marriage was virtually never about love and more about creating powerful families. Mohammed's first wife was very unusual, as a very independent business woman who basically bankrolled his education. Again unusually, all texts state this was a love match and they were married for 25 years. Alisha was the daughter oh one of Mohammed's brethren and her age is matter of contraversy.
