Hahaha this reminds me of something I saw at a local ice cream parlor. One very smart 15 year old who was working the ice cream window put a couple Sundae containers out on the serving self. She wrote on each container: "vote for your tip!" On one container she drew a cute picture of a little cat and on the other a little dog and wrote the question under each... "Which makes a better pet?" I'll bet that little entrepreneur made $100 in tips that day!
And I really can't stand cats.

They are different and incomparable. Do you have a mouse problem, get a cat. Do you have a raccoon problem, get a dog. Poison is the wrong solution for everything, it's bad for the environment. Get ladybugs to control mealybugs. Etc. There are biological controls for all kinds of pests, which are always better for the environment than poisons. I guess, I cannot answer whether cats or dogs bought as "only pets" are a better pet.

I’m more a dog person but I have more cats than dogs. I would say both because both can be loyal and affectionate as well as demanding of attention.
