I once had a woman tell me that I needed to find Jesus in order to be happy. I don't remember how I responded, but I know that I didn't like what she said. In my opinion, science and medicine are what solve/heal problems, not a mythical being. I have a very low tolerance for BS and religion tops the list most days.

I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I am working with a doctor to get through it. I don't really believe that lack of faith has anything to do with it, but I am curious as to how many others on this site have been given the same diagnosis. I can tell you that, for me at least, being on this site and seeing people with the same mindset that I have about some things really helps. I keep a lot of my feelings to myself and don't have another place to express them.

After thought: usually, when some one refers to finding jesus, or to just have faith. .....What they are really saying is, just give up thinking, stop using reason to solve a problem....just stop being so rational, and let irrationality take over, then you're being a true christian.

Maybe giving yourself a little slack would help...after all, putting youself through years of ducking and hiding, fears of letting your true self out......tryng to imbrace beliefs that your whole being says is wrong.... thats hell on earth, on a daily basis..and you've been strong enough to exist......lady you're tough......so give yourself alot of credit. ..and let it all hang out here.....lots of support, very little, if any, judgement. You'll be okay....

There's is a saying, you can't love someone and judge them at the same time.

not me! but then, i was raised in a secular jewish family. faith, as christians know it, isn't even part of the deal. being secular, although we were strong on cultural identity, we never talked about religion that i can think of. no one we hung out with did either. so no, although i also have some pretty bad clinical depression, no one has suggested curing it with prayer or anything like that. i am glad this site is helpful to you!

People just say things like that to manipulate and control you. Don't fall for it.
Besides if you take an antidepressant, or get some other form of treatment, and it works, that kind of rules out needing Jesus, doesn't it? Not to mention that there are countless people who believe in Jesus and are still depressed.

Hi sorry for your experiences

As Carlin once quipped from a bumper sticker, I have found Jesus, he is in my trunk.
I should add that I did not need to be born again; I did it right the first time.

@LetzGetReal
Religion, ideologies, racism, misogyny, all taught. We are not born with these odious ideas.

I had a teacher tell me once that "One day, You are going to get it." I responded, "from who, your god?" (and, yes, now I know it should have been whom). She threw me out of class before school started and didn't wish to see me the rest of the day. I would have loved, on that day, to have been caught roaming without a pass, for I had pleanty to say to the vice principal.

Yeah you would think after 2000 plus years he should have been found already. Welcome
