My favorite Sam Harris quote: “In fact, "atheism" is a term that should not even exist. No one ever needs to identify himself as a "non-astrologer" or a "non-alchemist." We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and their cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs.”

I feel the same way about the term "feminist." You are either a misogynist or not. It describes the "not" state which should be the norm.

The same logic applies to the term atheist.

The a- in atheist does not mean non, it means without and there are plenty of words ideologies and beliefs that use the prefix a- in this context
So being non religious and being atheist are subtly different.
Even in the context discussed, there are words used in the same way apolitical, non totalitarian for example

It's true, there are many words that should not exist, but they do, and are at best misunderstood and also denigrated to mean something entirely different from the original meaning...

I like that, kudos.

My favorite too.

Everything in this clip comes a close second.

Yes, that response of his during that debate with Craig was at Notre Dame! It is one of my favorites of his talks and I also still can not understand how believers give no application to what he is explaining.

@gsiamne rational arguments do not make sense to a faith based believer. There’s nothing rational about believing in the supernatural.

@gsiamne I agree SAM was excellent in this debate. Leave it to Craig to come up with nonsensical arguments.
