A question for my American cousins. I know that many of you live in the bible belt where the Christian right holds sway. What I don't get is this. How can a god fearing Christian support Trump? lets leave aside his politics for now. I am talking about his sexual morality. He is divorced (as was Reagan). A no-no for many Christians who view a vow made before god as unbreakable. Divorce aside, the "pussy grabbing tape" whether it was consensual or not. Was done when this man was married. Not what I would call "upholding christian values".

I’ve wondered this a million times. His three marriages, numerous infidelities. He was an admitted whore not just pussy grabbing. They did not want this loser to become president. He became popular with the “poorly educated” and they had to shine him up the best they could. They put all these pastors out there claiming that he’s changed his ways. It’s marketing, that’s all. He’s the same scum bag he always was.

Perhaps it could be a way to go to erode his base. Not from here obviously but one has to recall it was the Baptist movement that was so powerful in Obama's election
The answer is simple, the Christians have long over taken the Republican Party (and are slowly working their way into the Democratic Party too) as the Democrats have embraced what they would consider to be radical social behaviors (such as gay marriage abortion etc). So most Christian denominations aligned themselves with the Republicans. I personally don't understand their motives either, as modern day American conservatives believe in concepts such as capitalism/small government/individual liberties/and generally living a lifestyle of abundance, pretty much the direct opposite of what the holy babble instructed its followers to do. That proves some serious Christian hypocrisy there in my opinion. Not all Americans however that align with the political right are Christian, I'm an atheist and a conservative.

I think this is the primary reason. Although, I've gotten some indication from evangelicals I know that concern over illegal immigrants might be a secondary reason.
@bingst You forgot homosexual marriage, that's a big factor as well. This is why I like the Libertarians more, while their economic views are conservative, they are more open minded and accepting of homosexuals/abortion procedures/and overall equality for all.
The 'bible belt' is basically Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, with pockets of evangelicals elsewhere. The people of this region have been conditioned to think that they can be as sinful as they want, so long as they go to church twice on Sunday, and once on Wednesday.And they will still be able to get front-row seats in Heaven! Their preachers/pastors exert a good deal of influence over them; and if told to vote for particular candidates, they will. So, they can always be counted on to vote for candidates that are opposed to abortion, and anything else their clergy finds reprehensible.

Pardon me but I seem to recall an answer to someones previous post. Stating that the bible belt was basically anywhere outside of a metropolitan area. How accurate is that?
I am in Southeast Ohio right up against West Virginia. My town, Athens is a progressive university town, go 5 miles out and it is the bible belt. The local call in station has callers constantly calling in ranting about hippies, liberals, socialists, etc. and those callers are all Trump fans. I know many of them and if you even start opposing their viewpoint, they get very defensive. One thing about the sexual morality part. I think many of them have had affairs, things like that and so in Trump they see themselves, ie. someone who is prejudiced towards people of color, dismissive of others, ready to go to war at the drop of a hat. I will go to my grave not understanding where their anger and hate comes from.
