Whenever I hear people (or trolls) complaining about Hillary I just have to think...
WTF you going on about Hillary for? She is not President. She did not foist a big tax break for the rich on the American public. She did not instantly add a trillion dollars to the national debt and get nothing but a short-term bump in the economy. She did not take us out of the Paris Accord (in the face of overwhelming evidence that climate change is both anthropogenic and an existential threat). She did not abrogate the only treaty with a chance of slowing or halting Iran's development of nukes. She did not collude with a hostile foreign power to win the Presidency. She has not whipped up xenophobia and racism in America. She did not move to kick millions off health insurance and to make it harder for people with pre-existing conditions to get healthcare. She did not loosen rules on financial institutions, increasing the likelihood of an even bigger meltdown of the economy the next time a bank that's too big to fail fails. No, Hillary did none of those things. But Donald J. Trump did.
P.S. she was also the most experienced/ qualified person to ever run for the office even if you don't like her. NO ONE has ever spent 8 years in the White House, been Secretary of State AND a Senator and run for president. We forget now that we have a totally unqualified and inexperienced person there that someone needs to be qualified for the job. WE all have to be qualified for OUR jobs. At a minimum, she's no idiot and knows that Israel is in the Middle East ( if you don't know about that reference look up what Trump said in a room full of Israelis in Israel after coming from Saudi Arabia)
The irony to me is the Clintons 8 years in office saw winger things happen that they could only dream of at the time. As far as I'm concerned the Clintons are DINOs, so yeah, it's funny to me. They've no clue.
Although I do believe it wouldn't matter if she'd had an R after her name, she is a fiery-not-butt-kissy woman. Can't be that in our society. Even too many of our own are misogynist.
Don't forget he also supported the repeal of net neutrality, wants to continue to eliminate as many environmental protections as possible, wants to continue to eliminate as many consumer protections as possible, is a pathological liar, a serial cheat, has reset the bar on corruption in government, is a clown on the world stage and is the first president since the 1800s not to have a pet.
That last one may seem unimportant but its additional insight into his dysfunctional personality. Trump hates animals.
What kind of empty fuck hates animals?
Excellent point!
Nor would she have done virtually any of those things, had she been elected.
She's another corporate "centrist" Democrat and another plutocrat, but hell, I'd take Bush (either one) over Trump, much less Clinton. Where the right gets the notion Trump is any sort of improvement is beyond me. Oh yeah ... SCOTUS justice appointments. Repeal of abortion on demand. That justifies virtually any perfidy, I guess.
You make some good points. I would add that politicians seek money from corporations because it takes a lot of money to get elected. But who was it that shepherded Citizens United through the the courts? It was not liberals. We need to get the money out of our politics for sure.
@Flyingsaucesir It is the age of the internet, I don't understand why we need that much money to run for office. All we need is a website by state listing each person running, a list of their stances, and a few public debates. Or even just some youtube speeches. But if we slimmed it down to all of that it wouldn't give them a way to double speak I guess.
@Flyingsaucesir A number of progressive candidates have run 100% on small voter donations. Sanders, famously, and a little tiresomely, mentioned an average of < $30 per user IIRC. Individuals like you and I are capped at $1700/year in donations to any one campaign, so no one can buy significant influence for some personal cause. More and more candidates that are closer to the center have sworn off super-PAC and special interest money as well. Those who don't, tend to get called out -- like the just-elected Democratic governor of Michigan, who instantly seated one of her big donors on her transition team. I think the headline was, "Well, That Didn't Take Long".
@mordant
Yup, Bernie and others have gone without corporate money. I think everybody should. Failing that, full transparency is needed. Unfortunately we don't even have that. We can only guess at who is funding some of these super PACs.
