Would he have been able to wield it with it corrupting him? I say no. Men as a race were the most vulnerable to corruption. Even Isildur was affected within a very short time.

He'd be able to wield it, but it would, in the end, corrupt him, as postulated here. The only answer, both to end Sauron permanently & avoid the corruption was to destroy the One Ring. No other option, no matter who had the ring, would be viable. Even Gandalf would, eventually, be corrupted. (& I believe I've posted that "Theory" before...

@phxbillcee it’s telling Since neither Gandalf nor Galadriel, arguably the two most powerful beings for good in middle earth wouldn’t take it for fear of being corrupted that the only solution is to destroy the ring.
