The reason I'm not a complete Atheist is because of two things that happened to me which I can't explain. Also to my brother, my Mother and Brother in law. I don't subscribe to any one religion or belief system, but I firmly believe in some existence after death. Does anyone agree with this?

I’m a psychotherapist and a meditator, and I have been studying neurobiology for several years. I have learned that all those wonderful psychic, spiritual experiences happen in our own bodies and brains. Religious, spiritual practices create physiological experience. It was a real disappointment for a Yogi. I still meditate, but that’s because it’s healthy.

No. But whatever happened to you, twice, and you don’t have an explanation for, is personal to you alone. I have no such experiences, and in my opinion there are logical explanations for everything that happens, even if we don’t know what they are. Just because something is outside of one’s sphere of knowledge doesn’t mean that it must be supernatural. We don’t know everything, but we can only use critical thought to reason things that are evidence based, assumptions that there must be something mystical because we can’t explain certain happenings without evidence is illogical. There is no evidence that anything happens after death, it is only because generations of humans have been conditioned to believe that there is an afterlife that you think this way.

not i. in addition to not believing in any kind of deity whatsoever, i do not believe there is any kind of existence after death, apart from becoming part of the food chain. our brains put out electrical and other energy. that is what accounts for our consciousness, and what some people call the soul, in which i also do not believe. when the brain dies, all that is gone. there is no more self, just a dead body, which decomposes. how in the world is there any existence after the brain has died? so no, sorry, no offense, but there is nothing with which to agree here.

Disappointing, but probably true

@KittiPerry disappointing for many i am sure. i don't like the idea of disappearing but i also don't like the idea of an afterlife. i know that sounds senseless but that's just how i feel.

When you die you become like God... You don't exist.

This naturally begs the question: "What were the two things that happened to you that you can't explain?"

Not enough data to form a conclusion. Tell us what you think happened.

Spirituality or lack there of is an individual choice and journey. In 2013, I apparently passed out in my garage after starting my car. I was discovered five hours later.. near death from hypoglycemia. My then husband swore it was due to god that my life was saved. I always said, no it was not. My neighbors saw the car running for a couple hours and decided to come check it out. They called 911. The skill of the EMT’s, Dr’s and RN’s saved me. Belief in the afterlife is a fear of death. That is a remnant of religious teachings.

I don't not believe it. I just don't know.
