'I lost £100,000 to a stranger I thought was in love with me' – the devastating rise of romance fraud
I've had a few times on another paid site, not Match, where scammers kept messaging me for a little while without asking me for money. I let them keep doing it without blocking them out of a mixture of curiosity and amusement to see what their approach would be. Only had one scammer ever ask me for money and it was really quick after she or whoever it was began messaging me. Just told her no and she disappeared instantly.
Who the fuck is giving away that much money to an online hunny? Seriously, who? I'm broke AF.
My guess is rich, old, alone, lonely, naive, and stupid. And that particular one is crazy. I think more people get scammed for plane fare and much smaller amounts.
People try to catfish me when I'm on Match or OkCupid. The pictures are of an attractive young woman, profile says they are 25-35, and they are already in love with me from reading my profile. I'd do a Google image search and the pictures are of Russian lingerie models. Stuff like that. I just block and report them. Some people are so desperate for love that they get caught in the trap.
What is AF?
@TomMcGiverin AF = as fuck.
