No turkeys were harmed in my home this Thanksgiving.
Did anyone else just eat the same stuff they normally do in the course of normal day to day living?

Ate tofu turkey for the first time, not bad at all!

Yeah, Didn't eat any Turkey. Did have a few actual Turkeys to the house. Though it can be said they were not harmed, they were ruthlessly harassed and emotionally abused until they stormed out. Traditions, Go figure.

I have turkey 2-3 times a year. I like it. So long as we provide for the survival of our food animals, I see no issue with it.

Neighbor brought over a "smoked prime rib". I gotta tell you it beats turkey. Side note: they are Christian trump supporters and we never mentioned politics or religion and we all had a really enjoyable evening. Everyone else is Atheist.

The meaning of Thanksgiving to me is about abundance. It can be tons of turkey or tons of cookies, I don't really care as long as we have the time, means and peace of mind to enjoy the time off watching some football.

I just made a ribeye with sauteed mushrooms and onions baby corn potatoe salad

Yep. No special groceries purchased and nothing out of the ordinary cooked either. Rather than pie, I had a salad instead of dessert. It was a good day and I'm not overstuffed as is the tradition. 🙂

Yes & no. I made salmon with a side of naked spanikopita (normal food). I did make my first attempt at crustless coconut cream pie in my now gluten free world. It was spot on for taste but I will have to work on the "crust". It was a little tough/thick around the bottom edge. My son wolfed it down & went back for 2nds saying, "I remember you making this when we were kids. So good."

pretty close. I made something I like that takes longer to cook but otherwise no festive type dishes

My niece's (nephew's wife-not the same one mentioned in an earlier post) employer bought all his employees a Boston Butt for Thanksgiving.
My nephew made an amazing BBQ sauce from scratch.
I had mini-slider pulled pork sandwiches and a slice of cheesecake so good, it would make you want to slap your mama.
I skipped the sides.
Almost a typical Sunday dinner situation here.

We wouldn't have done a turkey. Neither my nephew nor I care for it. Unless it's deep-fried.

As I was cooking all of the normal Thanksgiving shit, I realized that I'm really tired of it. And I forgot the one freaking native dish I always make. Thankfully it's two more years before I have my kid for this holiday again. Maybe by then I can talk my family into a different menu.

If you're doing all the cooking, you should get to set the menu.
If they want something different, they can cook it.

😉

@KKGator I agree in principle. But, alas, I'm only doing it so the kids have pleasant memories. If everyone is bitching about the food, it kind of defeats the purpose.

@Minta79 I suppose that's true. You do you. No one does you better.
😉
