I don’t see the chances of the human species settling on another planet in our solar system due to the lack of the necessities of life that Earth provides. We cannot pack our existence in a suitcase. If we find a planet lightyears away that has our necessities, and we find a way to get there and self astain (which seems to be generations away) I am pretty much convinced that this is what we’ve got.

True, but it would make a great prison alternative. Humans, being the selfish bastards that we all are, would be more inclined to make that sacrifice if they knew earth was doomed.

I believe that many years in the future we'll develop technology that will allow us to build artificial environments that will allow us to habitat on other worlds.

I don't know how anyone could survive very long on another planet. No wi-fi, McDonald's or even a Walmart.

We are so close to our own downfall it won't happen if it could.

yeah, I just can't envisage it happening, I think the only thing that will colonise space is AI.

Yes, I'm unconvinced we will ever truly colonize a planet or moon within our solar system. We might be able to station someone on Mars for a while, but I don't see it becoming "home" to anyone.

T-minus 5 billion years and counting.
