With the looming threat of a government shutdown, religious supremacists in Congress will almost certainly try to sneak a repeal of the Johnson Amendment into the spending bill that will keep the government open.
If they succeed, churches will be able to fund elections and political campaigns with zero accountability and zero transparency.
We must stop them!
Today, we are joining dozens of other organizations in sponsoring a Day of Action in support of the Johnson Amendment.

Thank You … though I posted the same yesterday.. Silence ….. but for one detractor.. Well, my kids are doing well, fully educated and capable of getting the hell out of this nation sooner than later ...they may even take me. So why should we care?
Every so often such an announcement is posted, it reminds me there are AA members about - glad you’re in the loop …. Though maybe this place is simply a yack shack.. Where lots is discussed, yet little is done.
...since I’m here, I listened to Al Gore a few days ago, on NPR.. I was nearly floored by his optimism, on every subject. Never have I felt such a disconnect in such a positive way. Don’t know what he’s smoking, or what I need to be smoking.. but his mental discipline is far beyond my own..
Keep up your connections & good work - I should check in with AA more often
Yes because the government always listens whenever I say no.
Government, meaning those representing you, play a little number’s game of ‘how many letters, emails or phone calls represent how many constituents.’ At this moment, speaking up may actually get their attention…
@Varn I’m not a lobbyist nor am i a donor and the last 2 times that I was in a politicians office one was the appointed mayor of Richmond who pretty much told me that he should have me arrested for lying about my identity to get in front of the city council’s publicly aired meeting and for being a whistle blower.
And the other was Dave Brat who surprisingly actually listened to what I had to say even though I wasn’t a party member but beyond the fiscal numbers he really didn’t seem to interested in my proposals for prison reform.
And mark warner is only interested in industrializing his district. So I’m good I know that the changes that need to be made actually need to start with their jobs and the ceasing of lobbyists money.
@Alshaytan Glad you’re active, keep given them hell, so to speak.. And try not to get arrested.. Mark Warner’s ‘district’ is, or should be the entire state. I’m fairly confident he’d not sign on to anything eliminating the Johnson Amendment, or Tim Kaine for that matter. But let’s not discourage those in ‘red states’ or other ‘purple states’ from contacting their US Senators on this issue.
