On patriotism:

Do you "support the troops"?

How?

Is that just something we say to be accepted by the tribe now or is it, to you, just like saying I send "thoughts and prayers" to people going through a tough time?

So basically exerting no effort and doing nothing.

Based on your criteria, no I do not support out troops. The phrase "support our troops" is a worthless platitude thrown out to appease societal pressure.

Too be honest, I don't believe I owe them anything above and beyond what I would do for any other human being on the planet.

Why do you only equate "patriotism" to supporting the troops? That is a false equivalent in my opinion. First of all, patriotism is an ideology it is not a tangible, attainable thing. I think anytime you help members of your community making it a better place to live makes you a patriot. Don't get me wrong I support the troops and I come from a Gold Star family that hold 2 purple hearts but this false equivalent only divides our nation it does nothing to bring it together. If you served Thank You for your Service we are all in your debt!

I don't understand.
So what you're saying if I understand you is you don't actually do anything to support the troops which is the question I asked but rather give me a lecture on the meaning if the word patriotism and somehow you claim a link to patriotism because you know somebody that served and you once went to baby shower and gave a gift which promotes community so that's it? You've done your duty to the country?

As a matter of fact I did serve and am disabled because of it but then you claim you are somehow in my debt. Are those just more meaningless words too? What are you going to do for me or give to me to pay your portion of the debt you claim you owe because of my sacrifice?

Please go ahead and lecture me again on false equivalents. I'm enthralled.
