We lost our favorite chicken today. She passed away despite our best efforts. We're not entirely sure what happened but I think it was something called Egg Pretinois(probably spelled it wrong) it fitted all her symptoms. My sister is taking it the hardest she hand raised her from a chick. Steve was a wonderful chicken and we loved having her.

So sorry for your loss. The loss of any animal friend is tough.

All our non-human brothers and sisters matter. So sorry for your loss.

I am sorry for your loss. I find it amazing to see the emotional attachment all animals have for each other... even birds (it is especially evident in eagles/falcons) and fish.

We raise chickens for eggs and they're free range completely. But Steve was a special chicken she was basically our pet because she loved to be near us and around us. She would always try to get in the house anytime the door opened. Of course we thought it was adorable and hilarious so we let her. We use to play chicken tag where we put her in someone else's room and see how long it would take for them to notice. She once jumped into my sisters car and my sister didn't notice until she was at the gate of our farm. She had to drive back and put Steve out of her car.
