Well I've written a couple of books. An Atheist In A Foxhole A Soldiers Journey From Belief To Non Belief. Religion Comedy for the Intelligent Reality for the Ignorant. I am thinking of writing a 3rd called Why Do People Believe This Shit? Please discuss any of these topics in this post.

Was always skeptical but my time in the Army cemented it for me.

….I’ve heard of the book often, but have never read it…
From Portland, OR, here’s a description of my favorite ‘Atheist in a Foxhole’ - [obits.oregonlive.com]

My mums dad was an atheist in a foxhole - western desert 1941-43, Italy 1943/44, Europe and Germany 1944/45.
What really did for any belief that he may have had left, was when his battery of big guns wiped an Italian town off the map after the Germans left. Surely a loving God wouldn't have let that happen?

@maturin1919 He finished his war at Bergen Belsen, bulldozing bodies into pits.

@maturin1919 Irony - he was from Romany stock and his wife was (as in used to be) Jewish. She converted to marry him.
