To put this into perspective for people who do not understand it, who have never visited other countries and have no sense of cultural awareness, the Pyramids, for many Egyptians, are somewhat like the Statue of Liberty, the Constitution, and the flag for Americans. So in essence it is like someone doing this kind of obvious publicity stunt on them in America . . . it would not go over well for many Americans. Had he been caught in Egypt, he and his partner would likely have been in very great peril, and what he did was idiotic to say the least. I have been to the top of this pyramid, back when there was less concern . . . circa 1979 . . . and have the photos to prove it. When I climbed to the top, I was unaware of any such restrictions then, if they existed at all. The main reason they ban climbing the Pyramids is that it is damned awful dangerous, people have been killed doing so. Climbing them nowadays though is just extreme stupidity, if you get caught, you are going to regret it for a very long time, you will not ever be able to visit Egypt again, and, if you kill yourself doing it, you will not have time to regret it. I can only say that I stand in awe of beautiful Egypt, its history, its culture, and I find it very displeasing when I see idiots who go to other countries and refuse to respect their customs, culture and laws. That is no different than some idiot from another country coming here, who has never seen a woman in a bathing suit in person thinking that he can have his way with her simply because of the way she dressed. History if full of this kind of ignorance, no understanding, with no knowledge, or even the desire to learn about or understand another culture. I have been learning about other cultures and languages since I left the US Navy, and the benefits of doing so are tremendous. Don't be like this ignorant asshole who has no respect for other people, cultures, and, who is lucky to still be alive.

I agree with the last part. Sorta. Respect is something earned. I fear/obey local customs because of the consequences of not doing so. I attempt to always be cognizant of how to get what I want without being jailed. But i have no "respect" for sharia.

The article included religion as a justification for why "public morality" was offended.

Muslims did not build the pyramids. So religion is not an issue.

The current egyptians are the current protectors of some of humanities greatest achievements and knowledge. The pyramids should not be damaged.

Anyone who climbs on a monument in the US should be prosecuted under the laws of the land. It does not matter if they are naked.

Most of out the quotes were about those people being naked. Not for concern for the laws nor the damage that could have been done.

Anyone who claims a criminal should be respectful of the our monuments because of the local religion is not using their frontal lobes.

I posted about this as well:::

Danish photographer fucks on the top of the pyramid. And all the muslims go, "do, ta do, ta do, ta do, ta do,...

""Khaled el Anany said Hvid's actions were a violation of public morality and referred the case for investigation.""

Public morality? Fuck you. Where was the public that was violated?

""Egypt, a mostly Muslim country, regards the pyramids of Giza as among its most important monuments.""

Fucking DUH! The pyramids are the WORLD"S most important monuments. Currently in the safe keeping of some of the world's stupidist humans. That bodes well for their preservation.

The issue here is not about public morality. it is about assholes who think they get to do whatever they want.

Andreas Hvid and the women should be jailed for their arrogance, and the potential damage they could have inflicted upon the thousand's year old stones. They could have fallen and spilled blood destroying vital clues. Their disrespect of human heritage is the issue. Violation of the law, is the issue. Not the shithead crap about public islamic outrage.

People climb it all the time. You think they're the only ones to have ever done that? Not saying that "everyone does it makes it right" but... FFS there's a goddamned pizza hut right across from it.
If it's so fucking important to them how is it not worth a formidable golden spiked fence.

it sounds like they may go to jail.
