Would be great to have a count of how many times i have been blocked, and reported.

I don't want names. Just a sense of how many had hurt feelings from what I wrote.

HEY I JUST GOT BLOCKED:: in a thread about being blocked!

See, we need a counter.

In this thread or another?

@Heidi68 different one. not started by me.

And now i see links to the thread but i can't see it. I miss it already.

@Jacar is it possible, as I stated in my first comment - we don't need a counter but some self-reflection? Yes people could be getting offended too easily or is it possible you are coming on too strong/aggressive? If you, overall, enjoy whatever groups/people yet you are the one being blocked wouldn't it make more sense for you to change (your approach) than the site?
Read your comment below about 'whities'. Racist people & now racist words. There have always been racist words - think the 'n' word. And no, I don't type nor say it, not because it may offend someone but because it is an ugly word with an ugly history. I wasn't part of the conversation you had but is it possible whomever you were talking to was trying to point out whities is used by raciat people to degrade another human?
Not to mention the paragraph right before the 'whities' paragragh - you are calling people names, albeit, misspelled. Are you speaking the same when people block you? It is very hard to interpret tone in typed words but I read that whole response as rude and condescending. That may not have been your intent but intent is not as easily recognized in a typed discussion. People do not come on (most) sites for that. Discussion is one thing but to be critical & condescending to people is not what anyone wants to hear.
Like I said, self-reflection.

@Heidi68 Racist words? Really? Racist to whom? And why should they have the power to silence me. I use the "W" word to describe those who are racist. Those who think they are superior.

Way too many people lack the capacity to read for context and thereby comprehension. Without these skills these people completely miss any meaning that is expressed in more than 140 characters. Add some sarcasm and the meltdowns begin.

Self censorship in places that purport to provide open conversation is the goal of fascism.

That anyone TAKES offence, or FEELS insulted is not something I have control over. I am never mean even when that happens to me. I ad hominem only in jest.

Read my posts, and responses, and tell me where I have been the bad guy?

I am perty shur the core problem is i do not use smiley faces.

@Heidi68 . . .I think our language is dire need of correct spellings to reflect the way people speak not and not 180 years ago. Night should be nite. and so on. We are spending way too much time teaching children all the exceptions to rules that no longer have any meaning or reason.
Hence: my preferred spelling is "stoopid."

@Jacar if we were typing as they spoke 180 years ago both of us would have a very hard time understanding it. Proper spelling and speech vs slang in typed context amongst strangers with very different backgrounds causes misinterpretations. Hence, the possibility of why you keep getting blocked.
It is not self-censorship, self-reflection is to look at ones self for clues to areas of self-improvement or self-awareness.

@Heidi68 . . .Thank you. I really appreciate that you are persistent. . . This is the core of my complaint about those who block without engagement to understand. Instead of enquiring for clarification they run and hide. This is bad for all of us.

Yes. It is probable that I am thought obnoxious. That is their feelings.

"Proper" spelling. When webster's dictionary was first published there were multiple spellings and pronunciations for most of the words. Eventually we got to where we are now.

Nearly all "GHT" words are unreasonable. These letters are mostly silent, and the words containing them have no unifying reasons for spelling: Night, weight, thought,.... I think it is time for us to fix this. We, and our children, are being held hostage because of a perverted sense of obligation to a historical "correctness" that interferes with learning because the emphasis in on this correctness instead of the ideas attempting to be conveyed.

I completely agree with your last sentence. I am constantly endeavoring to improve my understanding of what i think and how i should communicate it.

Yet. There are many encounters that require resistance. To me, the "W" word and the "N" word are not equivalent in scope. And to get admonished for using either of these words in any context that is not part of a hateful diatribe is wrong. That people react to a single word to denounce and even kill is unjustifiable.

Germany has laws that proscribe any talk of holocaust denial. This has been very bad. It has not in anyway stopped such thoughts. Even attempting to denounce the deniers can get one fined.
This is happening in the UK and canada when criticizing islam
Only free speech gives us the ability to tell the truth about evil and stoopidity.

And so on.

Thanks again for poking at me.

@Jacar I am not disagreeing with free speech. But this thread is about being blocked, correct? To understand why one is being blocked, one may need to change their behavior to find the source of being blocked without first being blocked. Once that source is found/discovered one can then either continue to learn about ones self or revert back to their original behavior.

Asperger's is a bitch! Just hang in their.

2

I think you have a problem, if it was me I would be wondering why I was such a pariah!

I'm not wondering in general. It is the specifics that i am interested in. But since i can not ask those that have blocked me, "Why," and that they did not tell me, i cannot learn what topics are now popular to avoid.

1

Well, we do live in the age of ppl getting offended by their own shadow, but, also seems like ur getting too much of a thrill out of it. But, to each his own.

I just want to know how many have found my words annoying. Tells me lots about the level of ability to reason of the members here at A.C.

1

I have the odd feeling that Facebook has followed me.

Increasingly i am finding comments to be of very uninformed nature. And those people are the ones who go all ad hominem and stoopid when challenged.

Sad. I got blocked from an FB atheist group for writing "whities." It is now officially on the list of "racist" words. Bad enough we got racist people. But racist words? We are in deep deep doo.

Do you have a habit of ruffling feathers? If so I guess you may need to guess? I think some people block other people because they misunderstood a message or the format wasn’t liked! I have been blocked...out of the blue! I do try and clear up, with anyone who feels attacked by a response from me. That is work, though. I am pretty clear about when people, try and ‘hit below the belt!’ When that happens, I will block...end of games!

I keep seeing posts by a woman who blocked me. These are often in the science forum. And i am interested in the headline. But I can't read them. That's not fair.

@Davethecave I would say, that a person doing that, needs to get a ‘life!’ This is not where the correction police resides! I read through lots of post with sometimes difficulty, but I look for the message that is trying to be sent...and move on! There are no perfect people no perfect reasons for anything! When did it start to be required, that we be perfect...?

@Jacar ...I ask you, have you found life to be ‘so fair!’ We want to know what is hidden...that is part of the skills we need to protect ourselves...but, just remember the old adage...’what you don’t know want hurt you!’ I find that still holds true, even today! Could even be a blessing in disguise! Giving up ‘control,’ works great toward more freedom!

@Freedompath . . . fair in the sense that i obviously unreasonably thought A.C was going to be a safe-space. Where we are safe to say what we think without reprisal.
Another erroneous expectation proving that i am merely a man.

@Jacar well...’merely a man,’ stands for life! What were you attempting before...a god head? Welcome to the real world, it is nice here, when we can get past our loneliness!

There is a good reason for it.

Maybe. Well, in the blocker's mind. It is not because i attack individuals. I rarely have been all ad hominem. Usually it is because many of my comments are about how stoopid the ideas of the regressive-lefters are.

And those people are not interested in learning anything that does not fit with their narrow understanding of the phrase, "Freedom of Speech."

I do not block. Can't learn if i do not listen.

@Jacar And how do you know that, after all you cannot read minds. Freedom of speech comes with responsibility too.

@Jolanta . . . Exactly: they have left me without telling me why. Very forlorning.

Responsibility? Yeah. That's an interesting tact. But what am i to be responsible for? i cannot be responsible for other's feelings. That's impossible. Especially in such an anonymous forum?

I never insult, nor offend. That other's TAKE offence, and FEEL insulted is not something I have any control over.

@Jolanta . . And::: if i were to think about blocking someone, I would first review their posts to learn if that person was consistently obnoxious, or if it was the topic,....

Example: I think domesticated cats are an immense made-made environmental disaster. This thinking is the result of review lots of science about the badness of them being taken every where by humans.

But, i don't usually, bring that up out-of-topic. But i would not block someone who thought i was a looney.

So you can argue with people here. They actually get fuckn pissed? That's absurd. Not a Disney site.

For???

1

Trust me you don’t really want to know and besides I was kicked off and some of the people that I’m sure was responsible have actually grown to like me this time because I let them be as wrong as they wannabe.
Well with the exception of this guy from California that looks like a middle aged Barney Rubble that’s about to go into full rhoid rage and even as a straight man I still feel that he’s so cute when tells me to STFU ???

5

Let me get this straight - you want to keep count of how many people block & report you? Do you have a goal? Like I want to piss off as many people as possible as I can so I am alone in this group? If you are getting blocked & reported that often wouldn't it be better to do a little self-reflection instead of a tally?

@Morganfreeman that isn't negativity. Getting blocked so many times you want to keep count, IS spreading negativity. Why in the world would you want to be blocked & keep count of how often you are pissing off people? That sounds more like a bully keeping a notch in their belt for being mean to people. What is the purpose?

@maturin1919 seems like an odd thing to want to laugh about, to me. "Look I made someone else so mad they don't want to see anything I post." I thought we were here for community. There is one gentleman on here that I disagree with quite often but we keep it civil, have some long intense discusions and have no need to block. So, I find it odd that you find getting blocked amusing, but to each their own.
@Morganfreeman if I were admin, my response to that comment would be 'get a pen & paper and keep your own tally - this site is for community'.

@Morganfreeman seems like you have a need to feel ‘alive!’

We have a count on followers and fans. Why not haters? I don't want the names.

@maturin1919 I understand a laugh & a joke - I just feel there are better ways to be amused. Honestly, I find those thin skinned, easily block button users sad. I love a good discussion/debate and if I don't like the direction it is going I know how to walk away not block away. And should someone block me because they don't like what is being discussed, well, good riddance I don't need to keep count of such people.

I am never mean. I am all about science. Many now on the left are not. This causes their feelings to be hurt.
I did get blocked because i posted in a thread about men being shits, that women can be shits too. So, at least two very sensitive women took issue with a man defending men.

I am not here to just get along. I call bullshit when I see it.

I am considered negative by those who disagree. And mostly they are wrong to do so. Obviously they need to hide from the truth. And they find my words to give them impetus.

@maturin1919 . . . Well written.

@maturin1919, @Freedompath . . . I am always civil. And I am not amused by being blocked by the offended. I am saddened. For that person has lost the opportunity to learn from me. And of course all others they block.

Laughing at the discomfort of others is evil.

@Jacar I agree on calling BS when necessary. I have not met those on the left who don't like science, nor have I met any with unusually thin skin - maybe it is approach, I don't know.
I still do not understand the need/want for a count of the people who block me. Actually, I don't really understand the whole point system other than a way for Admin to have help - such as not allowing everyone start/moderate a group until they hit a certain level, etc. With that said I do check my points - more for the 'oh shit, I am spending way too much time on here chatting'. ?

@Jacar aren’t you ‘mind reading’ here? Motives, are as varied as people! We are never going to influence many people...but what we can do, is be ‘real,’ with those that cross our path and that way both of us is benefited! You will never please, most people! But, if a only a few hear your ‘truth,’ that is enough!

@Freedompath . . .not mind reading. But why else avoid something other than because one feels uncomfortable. Blocking means a post is not even presented for reading. No learning there.
I just move on.

@Freedompath, @Heidi68 . . .good for you that you do not have exposure to any of the regressives.

@Freedompath, @Heidi68, @maturin1919 . . . we are only immortal via what others remember of us. Hence my sadness at losing any venue.

@Jacar replace it with something better? A person blocked me right out of the gate when she came to agnostics, and I never figured out why? I must admit, that I must see her post, each time she posts something and if I tag it, it comes back, ‘as not available,’ to me ofcourse! At first, i felt slighted, but ‘pass the peas,’ I am way passed HER! There are more HERS, out there with interesting things to share!

@Jacar as long as anyone speaks your name...you will never be forgotten! Maybe that is why names are put on tumbstones! I wonder what will happen when people like me, have their ashes scattered to the wind? Maybe the wind, will remember?

@Freedompath . . . yeah. just got blocked in a thread about blocking. Good times.

@Jacar ...I suggest that you stay in the game, and stay out of any group for a while! I do not understand and I do not have enough information to comment on your situation! But, I do believe you have a place here, just like the rest of us! Pay attention to your feed back, don’t be afraid to learn something different! Plant yourself here and keep going, I know that I had some disruptions at the beginning, maybe you are in a learning curve...it usually feels unsteady when that is happening! Good luck

@Jacar I try an expose myself to ‘subjects,’ that I have an interest in or some ‘hands on’ experience! Trying to fit myself into areas that I know very little about, is a lot of work! I must try and call up, what little I might know and then explain that position, in a manner that another person can get my meaning! This is work for me.

@Freedompath . . . Many years ago i read that Peter Drucker would chose a topic each year for study during that year. He recommended do this for topics we mostly know nothing about.
I have done this consciously and not for these years. Consequently i have learned much about subjects i had not thought about. Religion has been one of the opics the past 3 years.
I was not raised with beliefs. I was raised to question.

For the past 40+ years i, and the wif, have been mostly around people that at least have/do not spoken about anything religious. And those that have have only done so in the context of activities involving their attending one of the universalist churches. There are catholics among us. But they don't preach.

I started paying attention more because of the increasing criticisms of islam and the impact it was having in europe, and because laws were being proposed/passed about how we could no longer critisize the zionist invaders. "Religious homeland?" Absolute shit.

So, the accidental study of religion is one of the reasons i have come to A.C. FB was getting was too stoopid about.

And thank you for your many posts. Always thought provoking, as you have read.
