Some people say that the signs that say ‘it’s okay to be white’ came from the kkk and neo nazis. Actually it came from 4chan but I’m going to make this point. Even if white supremacists were behind it, it’s not a sign to get worked up about. Let’s say the kkk went around putting up signs which read ‘it’s okay to eat ice cream’. Would people then stop eating ice cream because it was racist? No! Ice cream is good and folks won’t stop eating it just because some racists might agree that it tastes good. ‘It’s okay to be white’ is a true statement regardless of its origin is what I’m saying.
wrong. there is context. there is history. it does matter where it comes from because it is a dog whistle and it means more than it says. in this society, it is a GIVEN that it's okay to be white. just as "black lives matter" and "black pride" do not need to be countered by "white lives matter" (everyone knows that, but apparently to many, black lives do NOT matter) and "white pride" (that goes without saying, but black kids had to LEARN to be proud of who they were because they were always told they had nothing to be proud of), we don't need to be told it's okay to be white. we're not having a problem with that. the problem is that for many it's not okay to be anything BUT white (and male, for that matter).

Thank you, you said it much better than I could!
@CarolinaGirl60 thanks but i think i left out something important, actually. that is, there wouldn't BE an "it's okay to be white" sign if the 4chan folks didn't feel pressured and offended by the horrible claim by nonwhites that it's okay NOT to be white, too. it's not a random statement like "ice cream tastes good." it's a reaction and it's the wrong reaction. the right reaction is "yes, black lives matter too. we're with you." there is a REASON we say "consider the source." "black lives matter" means "black lives matter TOO." "it's okay to be white" means "it's only okay to be white, not okay not to be white." how do we know it means this? consider the source!

Then, by that logic, ‘Black Lives Matter’ signs shouldn’t upset the kkk/4chan/whatever...because it’s a true statement. Right?
