Unfortunately this is starting to sound like mandatory car insurance ($$$$), mandatory emissions verification ($$$), mandatory health insurance ($$$$$), mandatory home owners insurance ($$$$), mandatory rental insurance ($$$$)……

If it’s required by the state it will probably spin off a few horrible inadvertent trainwrecks, and possibly some intentional abuse, but I do wish it could evolve into a more culturally accepted voluntary norm like six month dental checkups. Surely our mental health is at least as important as our dental health.

I think abuse is my biggest concern. Plus, who is monitoring the quality/professionalism of the therapists? There is a health official at my daughter's school that discriminates against her because she is an atheist. That would not be the type of person I want giving my child a psych evaluation. Of course I don't live in Oregon so it's a nonissue for me, but I still ponder this.

I would worry about that too. Having it enforced through the school system is probably a bad idea, but I'd welcome a cultural shift that favored voluntary (and affordable) routine mental health checkups and appropriate followup. I don't know what private organization might want to fund a series of Public Service Announcements?

We need to require government officials to undergo mental health exams!

Particularly the juvenile in the White House

I think it would be better to have a mental hygiene type of class that would explore strategies for effective living. Any students that were identified as needing help could then be referred.

There are many children who will exhibit negative tendencies that will show up on the rulers radar list. I'm not sure that this is a good idea. I think the ones who would or will become dangerous will know how to answer the questions positively.

I should think this is a good idea, but I am really apprehensive about it for some reason. I hope others chime in.
