A friend of mine put up a post in Facebook saying that political correctness is just a word that white people use whenever other groups demand respect. I responded by saying that political correctness would really be like if I tried to ban his post just because I disagreed. I went on to say that his right to express himself is more important than my feelings. All he could say to that was ‘wrong’ without giving an explanation as to why. That is his view though and I respect his right to say it.

Well played.

I say you're both wrong. Political correctness is not offending someone intentionally and being considerate of others' feelings

Yes, thank you! However, the term “politically correct” was lifted from the Stalinist Soviet Union precisely as a put-down for such consideration and the effort to be thoughtful, by more right-leaning, socially conservative types. Sadly, some people just feel that anything that improves the situation of others somehow comes at their own expense.
