Why can't the public propose to place on a ballot what they believe should be a law?

Nice idea BUT the political parties, etc, would be very loathe to allow it since it would undermine their monopolies.

True that means we need change.

a quick look at the public makes glad they can't.

Because then our ballots would be made out toilet paper and placed in the lobbyists bathroom

Almost every law is composed by a lobbiest in Federal or State governments. My daughter is a lobbiest and not all of them are bad believe me.

Well you may nto be able to tell it by todays elected office holders, but originaly it was thought tht those who woudl be elected woudl be educated and able to do the best or right thing over what was just onlypopular.

Putting laws up for election would nto be of a mob rule sitation rather than what the founders intended.... not that we got what the founders intended, but what we do have is still better than mob rule.

In theory, and only in theory, you can make recommendations to your legislators and they will draft the bill if it gets enough support..

Lobbiests write all bills both State and Federal because the lawmaker doesn't know eneough about the subject

Examples are abortion, immigration, health insurance. I know it is Congress that makes the law but we should be able to make them take up a law we want to have. other examples are public funding of campaigns, limited advertising of campaigns, drugs and others like term limits.
